I. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BARANGAY SOUTH POBLACION

Brief History of South Poblacion, Larena, SIquiijor, was divided into two parts subsequently South Poblacion derived its name from location in the Southern part of Larena thus came into existence.



  1. GEOGRAPHY AND MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION

Barangay South is situated in the Poblacion Area, South Poblacion is located in the Southern most portion of Larena, Siquijor. It is bounded in North Poblacion by Magsaysay Street bounded to east by Barangay Bontod, bounded in South by Barangay Cangbagsa, and bouned in the west by seashore.



  1. POLITICAL SUBDIVIATION

It is composed of one Sitio, Sitio Buyog.

 

  1. TOPOGRAPHY

Primarily a lowland area with seashore bounding the west side point.



  1. CLIMATE

Generally dry during the middle of the year and it is wet during the later part of the year.

 

  1. ETHNIC GROUP

It is inhabited by Visayan and Chinese people who are naturalized Filipino.



  1. DIALECT

Resident speak Visayan



 

II. HUMAN RESOURCES

It is inhabitant by 653 inhabitants as of 2024 as per RBI partial report survey.

  1. LABOR FORCE

Mostly residents are government employees and businessman/woman. Who are operating their own business, only few farmers/laborers and fisherman.

Urban Rural Tribal

Typhoons and floods usually occur during rainy seasons. Some agricultural products and crops were damaged when strong winds and heavy rainy occur that causes calamity of the environment of the community.

Mineral Resources

Mining is not applied in the Barangay that is why there is no recorded mineral resources found within the area.

Freshwater Resources

With the presence of fishponds and fish cages, some of the constituents were able to raise Tilapia and other type fish.

III. OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

  1. POLITICAL CONDITION

The political condition in the barangay is not controversial. Although during election, constituents have different opinions, ideas and even parties that are common in all places.



  1. PEACE AND ORDER CONDITION

The presence of Barangay Peace and Order Committee, Barangay Police Force and Lupong Tagapamayapa together with the Barangay Officials is of great help to maintain in peace and order in the

Barangay. At present peace and order is not a burden and hindrance to the Barangay Development and through reenactment; implementation and enforcement of the Barangay rules, regulations and ordinance, the Barangay has no problem on peace and order.



  1. ORGANIZATIONAL AND MANAGEMENT

The operation of this plan will be exclusive function in the Barangay through the chairmanship of Punong Barangay IRENEO L. GIDO, Jr. with the concurrence of the Sangguniang Barangay members to work together close relationship that link both young and adult. The program of work and bill of materials will form as part of this plan together with approval and verified by the Provincial Officials and Municipal Officials, department agencies for infrastructure, agriculture and livelihood projects for the improvement of the community development. The Sangguniang Barangay, Barangay Development Council generally conceptualized the plans, projects and programs which legitimate by the Barangay Council after a due consultation ever since the start of this documentation for utilization of the funds set aside as one of the statutory requirements In the preparation of the Barangay Annual Budget.



GOALS AND OBJECTIVES (SECTORIAL ACTIVITIES)



  1. AGRICULTURAL, NATURAL RESOURCES AND DEVELOPMENT

  • To promote the improvement of the livelihood programs and the agricultural production technologies and resources.

  • To protect the physical condition of the working animals and other technological farm machineries.

  1. FACILITIES SECTOR

  • To have and maintain better road system for more convenient transportation.

  1. ORGANIZATIONAL AND MANAGEMENT SECTOR

  • To improve the participation of the people through the community group activities and sustaining the improvement of the existing non-organizations and people organization being registered in Barangay Government.

  1. HEALTH AND SANITATION SECTOR

  • To monitor and promote health to keep the people away from different disease or sickness particularly children and indigent people of the Barangay.

  1. COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION SECTOR

  • To improvement the surroundings of individual household by planting ornamental, medicinal plants, fruit trees as well as vegetables in their backyards.

  1. RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT SECTOR

  • To improve tax collection efforts in the Barangay by assisting the municipal treasurer in the activity in the campaign taxation.

  • To use the resources in the Barangay wisely to the most economically possible.

  1. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SECTOR

  • To promote unity and goodwill among younger boys and girls through Sangguniang Kabataan through the assistance of the Barangay Officials.

  1. INDUSTRIES DEVELOPMENT SECTOR

  • To promote planting off season plants like crops for ready source of cash-and-carry to add a little income to farmers and source of food and vegetables with technical duty assigned in the respective Barangay.

  1. BASIC FACILITIES AND SPECIAL PROJECTS

  • To improve or maintain the existing facilities like Barangay Multi-purpose Hall, Day Care Center and other facilities and equipments owned by the Barangay.

  • To provide facilities and equipments for the use of construction of the Multi-purpose and other facilities of the Barangay and for the maintenance of all Barangay Properties.
